TRAINERS’ SORRY PLIGHT
There is no gainsaying the fact that Auckland light harness mentors are right up against it as far as getting their charges fit for the forthcoming meeting is concerned, and consequently the local trotters and pacers will suffer >n comparison witfc their Southern rivals when the tryating days arrive. The heavy rains which are rightly falling with monotonous regularity have the effect of keeping the tracks at Alexandra Park in an unfit state f?r wor *k» and as there are no off’er facilities offering for exercising their equines, trainers can only “grin and bear” it. •t is little more than a forth'ght till the meeting, and unless the weather prophet can niend the climate conditions, the prospects of a reasonable share of the rich prize money offered by the Auckland Club remaining in this locality is remote indeed. At present local mentors are in a sorry plight ** regards “brushing up” and indications point to tbe bulk of Auckland stakes 90ing to Southern owners.
