PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board was held on Tuesday. Present. Air. A. W. Hall chairman, Messrs. W. .1. Nicholson. W. Brown, J. Franklin, P. Pennell. E. S. Sorensen, G. Foster. Considerable discussion took place regarding the use of scoria for repairing roads, and it was ultimately decided that funds would not permit the use of metal on all the roads. A schedule of roading conditions was submitted by the chairman of the works committee. These are in connection with any roading on new subdivisions. The main topic of discussion was the inspection fees charged by the engineer, and the time spent by the board’s foreman, which is at present without remuneration to the board. tional electric lights be erected in Portage Road, Kenderdine Road and the corner of Scott Road and Central Avenue. It was decided to communicate with the Manukau County Council and ask that body to put the neutral ground in Buckland Road in order. The engineer reported having taken the levels in Birdwood Avenue and advised the footpath be placed on the southern side of the thoroughfare, the estimated cost being £l2O. A request from A. Mephan was received, asking the board to rescind its motion regarding the prohibiting of any more petrol pumps in the districtAfter some discussion it was decided that permission be not granted for the erection of any additional pumps. It was resolved that roads be classified as follow:—First, concrete; second, bitumen; third, metal. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £415 3s 3d. It was resolved to ask the Railway Department to erect a ramp at the northern end of the station for the convenience of residents. The Otahuhu Borough Council will be asked for cooperation in objecting to the new electoral boundaries and also to the name. A request to canvass the district for the unemployed fund in Auckland was declined.
