HUNTLY TOWN BOARD

The ordinary meeting of the lluntly Town Board was held last night, all the members being present. Mr. W. C. E. George eccuoied the chait.

ing insurance on its property, and it was agreed that support be given to the State Office. Mr. Heehan, the recently-appointed manager of the Town Hall, which will probably be opened on June 21, is due here to-morrow from Hokitika. Numerous details of work and improvements to the Town Hall were dealt with, and the clerk reported on improvements to the Lyceum Theatre. Sanitary arrangements were in hand. Four applications were received for permission to hold social functions in the new Town Hall, and it was agreed that the Huntly Ratepayers’ Association be given the first date after the opening ceremony. Six tenders were received for furniture for the board’s offices in the hall, and the Huntly Timber Company’s was accepted at £125. Building permits were approved for Messrs. Oxenham, C, Reed, G. Holmes and F. Littleproud, the latetr for a handsome reiry’orct'd concrete building in the main street, to contain tearooms, shops, etc. The new electric clock has been installed. It is keeping excellent time, and is an adornment to the Town Hall. The clock, which will be lit at night, is double-faced, and cost £234. The state of the roads from Baker’s to the Pound Crossing was roundly condemned, and it is to be gravelled and metalled at once. The sanitary dump is to be inspected by the works committee, and reported on. Councillor Sheehan voicing the complaint of the residents of the vicinity. A slot telephone in the main street is to be applied for. The works committee will inspect water labl**s and drains in the town, and gorse and other noxious weeds are to be removed at once.
