PRINCESS AND TIVOLI
“THE SILENT RIDER” ,j A fast-moving story, replete with action, thrills and romance, is the Uni-versal-Jewel production, “The Silent Rider,” which opens to-morrow at the J Princess and Tivoli Theatres. The one and only Hoot Gibson is , starred in “The Silent Rider,” an r adaptation from Katherine Newlin £ Burt’s best seller, “The Red Headed n Husband,” and is ably supported by a featured cast of Western players. The picture starts with a young girl t appearing at the Bar Z ranch-house to assist in the feeding of a score of rough but good-hearted cowboys. Hoot, as one of the cow-punchers, is immediately smitten with the mysteri- • ous stranger, but is unable to fathom the mystery surrounding her past. Hoot and a partner build a cabin near the Bar Z ranch, where they take : care of a little boy they found alone on the desert. Things start to happen fast when the father of the child claims his son and it is discovered that the mysterious girl is the wife and mother. How it is eventually straightened out> provides one of the most logical and entertaining endings to a picture imaginable. Blanche Mehaffey. who is fast coming into her own as a picture luminary, plays the part of the girl, while
a featured cast of Western players are included. The direction is by Lynn Reynolds. On the same programme is “Perch of the Devil,” in which King Baggott, the first prominent star of the screen, has made a higher mark as a director than he did as a star. Baggot is the producer of “Perch of the Devil,” UniIversal- Jewel, adapted from the celebrated novel by Gertrude Atherton. Pat O’Malley and Mae Busch play the featured roles. They are supported by an excellent cast, including Jane Winton. Theodore Von Eltz, Mario Carillo Gertrude Oakman, Martha Franklin and George Kuwa.
