THEFT MONEY
MAN OF 65 CHARGED “OTHERWISE GOOD CHARACTER” “Well, I didn’t know what to do with you, Watson,” said Mr. YV. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court this morning to the man in the dock, “I don’t know why Chalmers placed this temptation in your way. I don’t want to send you to prison at your age.” Charles Augustus Watson, aged 65, who is a South African, was charged with stealing £ls 10s from David George Chalmers, with whom he had been boarding. Chalmers had given him the money to pay an account at the Electric Construction Company, and the man had omitted to do so. Watson said that he had spent the money in board and in buying clothes. “As far as is known, his character has been satisfactory,” said ChiefDetective Cummings. Watson offered to pay the money back, and on this condition he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within 12 months. He must pay back Chalmers £ls 10s within a month.
