DRINKING IN MANCHESTER

INDULGENCE BY YOUNG PEOPLE The Rev. E. A. Glenday, preaching in St. James’s Church, Manchester, said he had it on good authority that in at least two local public-houses large rooms might be found crowded on Saturday nights with young people drinking alcoholic beverages. “I am informed,” he added, ‘‘by an authority in this city-, that there is much more drinking among the young people of Manchester, both young men and young women, of the present day than there was ten years ago.”

Mr Glenday deprecated the lax view taken by reasonable people of the use of strong drink by the young.
