“A LITTLE JOURNEY”
MOST DELIGHTFUL FILM With the entire picture depicting only a five-day’s transcontinental railroad trip, “A Little Journey” is one of the most delightful pieces of entertainment of the year. The train, consisting of epgine, dining-car, luggage vans, several passenger cars and an observation coach, was brought to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio on a track specially built for the occasion. In these practically the entire action of the picture takes place. To make the film as novel as possible, real train crews were used and replicas of actual scenes en route across the continent were built. The time covered in the story consists of only five days—from the moment the train pulls out of New York until its arrival in San Francisco. This is the first time a picture has ever been filmed in its entirety aboard a train, with all the action taking place during a continuous trip. While a great deal of the picture was filmed aboard the train at the studio, several scenes were filmed in the open country between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and in the station of the latter city. Claire Windsor has the leading feminine role, that of Julie Rutherford, while William Haines, hero of “Brown of Harvard.” has the part of George Manning, the smart youth who buys Julie a ticket to replace the one she lost in her exciting departure from the Eastern city. Harry Carey, famous Western film star, plays the character role of Alexander Smith and Claire McDowell is seen in the role of Aunt Louise.
