“Old Ironsides’’ is the name of a frigate which sailed the Mediterranean in ISO 3 to clear that sea of pirates. Laurence Stallings wrote a story based on the deeds of this boat and now Paramount Pictures has made a roadshow attraction that is an epic of the sea. Notwithstanding certain measurements and directions already having been given in these columns about tile building of the “Old Ironsides” model, the entrants may upsc their own designs of a sailing frigate. Tile judging will be done on the neatest work and finest appearance of the model, but it should, of course, have a resemblance to "Old Ironsides.” Remember! The contest closes on June 30, when all models should be
handed In to the “Old Ironsides” Con. test Editor, care of THE SUN. This is the splendid model of 3 16th century ship at present on view in the lounge of the Regent Theare. It was built by Mr. Tom Philcox in his spare time and though it is a ship of a muuch earlier period than “Old Ironsides,” the detail is worth studying. The competition is open to boys up to 16 years of age. Model builders are invited to apply to “Old Ironsides” Contest Editor, THE SUN, for further informal tion about the ship. Please fill in this coupon and send it to the Contest Editor if you intend to submit a model:—
