ODORIFEROUS HINDUS
FINED AT WANGANUI MENACE TO HEALTH (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, To-day. Last week a certain Hindu was before the court for keeping dirty premises. When Ranchod Mana, another Hindu, knew the city and health inspectors were on his tracks for not keeping his premises in proper sanitary order, he took his departure for Wellington, having sold out to a fellowcountryman. The case was called at the court last Monday, but the magistrate allowed him another week to appear and give an explanation, in the meantime taking the evidence of the health inspector, who stated that in company with the city inspectors he visited the premises. The house, or dwelling, consisted of a galvanised iron shed let to the defendant at 4s a week. There were no conveniences. The three tnen and two boys who had occupied it were in the habit of using the school conveniences. The smell emanating from the accumulation of rags, sacks, filth, etc. was very pungent. Defendant was d bottle gatherer, and appeared to hoard up rubbish. The inspector considered that the place was a menace to health. A fine of £ 3 and costs was imposed.
