Sullivan put up a strong Plea . f .VJT ,enienc >’ w hen Robert Vernon, aged 29, appeared in the Police Court yesterday and admitted obtaining monov. £2 10s and £l, from Norman Lockyer. by falsely representing that he had an option over "Mr. Wades worths’* property in Lochiel Road, Remuera. Chief-Detective Cummings told the court that Vernon had had no option and that Mrs. Wades worth was an imaginary person. “He has only just come out aJter being imprisoned for debt.” said Mr. Sullivan. “He was down and out and hadn’t a penny.” Counsel asked for a period of probation on strict terms rather than gaol, and said that the £ 3 10s would be paid back. “Well, I’ll d« that.” said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. and placed Vernon on probation for 12 months, ordering £2 10s out of the £2 31s found on him when arrested, to be paid to the victim of his fraud
