STOLEN NAVAL PLANS
AN OFFICER’S TRIAL NO TREASON INTENDED DESIGNS OF SUBMARINES By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 11.15 a.m. LONDON, Monday. Lieutenant Frank Mayers, of the Royal Navy, arrested following the disappearance of naval plans, was tried in camera at Old Bailey. The prosecution withdrew the more serious charges and Mayers pleaded guilty to offences under the Official Secrets Act. The Lord Chief Justice said that he was satisfied that May.ers In retaining the plans had no purpose prejudicial to the safety of tl*3 State. His object was apparently to improve submarines for the Government. He was bound over to come up for judgment if called upon.—A. and N.Z.
