ROUGH IN ONE PLACE

THE GREAT SOUTH ROAD There is one rough place, worthy of comment, on the Great South Roacl lor many miles out of Auckland, and that is for about two chains on the northern section of the approach to the Wiri bridge. The new' bridge, instead of the wooden structure down in the dip, is now in use, and the southern approach is good. The engineers insisted on the clay being given a chance to settle on the other portion —on both of them for that matter —but it is taking a lot of settling on the northern end, and the metal has the habit of disappearing. Recognising that the endeavours are being made to keep this short portion passable, it is still suggested that a little more attention might be given to it now'.
