“Licence, Please”
MOTORISTS HELD UP MANY DRIVERS NEGLECTFUL Having allowed car drivers two months in which to get their driving licences, the Traffic Department put 25 inspectors on a raid yesterday, and a considerable number of drivers, wiiu l
have neglected to renew their licences, will probably be hailed before the court. The department has taken up a most reasonable attitude, and does not intend to prosecute those who claimed to have renewed, but were not carrving their licences—that is, if they produced them at the Traffic Office to-day. Traffic on the main highways was held up, and occasionally quite a line of cars was brought to a standstill while a driver hunted through his clothing and vehicle in serach of the missing ticket. The number defaulting was very large, and included a fairly high percentage of ladies. _
