CYCLE RACES AT MANGERE
WILSON’S POPULAR WIN ACCIDENT MARS GATHERING The Mangere course was the scene of a bad smash on Saturday afternoon, J. Brennan, a member of the Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club, coming to grief through striking another rider’s wheel and receiving injuries of such a serious nature that several stitches were required to fix him up so that he could proceed to his home at Onehunga. The racing: was good, the juniors particularly putting up a fine ride, and doing very good time. Stein, the winner of the race, also secured fastest time. He rode a splendid race. The Manukau Club have in this youngster a coming champion.
In the club’s 33-mile race the winner turned up in Les. Wilson (6min), the popular secretary. He just managed to squeeze home in front of the fastfinishing J. Stewart (7£min). Wilson also secured fastest time. Stewart’s chain came off in this race, but he quickly put it on again and caught up wijth the bunch and finished, second. Davies, who finished third, was only a length away. The race was the longest held by the M.C.C. this season, and the time, 86min 57sec, was good.
