FARMERS’ PROSPECTS ARE BRIGHTER

MR. J. G. ELLIOTT’S BELIEF Press Association. FEILDING, To-day. On taking the presidential chair at the Feilding A. and P. Association annual meeting last night, Mr. J. G. Eliott, M.P., referred to the prospects for farmers. He said the wool outlook was good. There was a very small carry-over from the last clip. Prices were quite satisfactory, with bright indications for next season’s clip. Butter prices were increasing. He expected a good year ahead for dairy farmers. Referring to the farmers’ difficulties, he said the present system of rural finance was unsatisfactory. The financial institutions, especially the banks, thought only of the dividend. The Arbitration Court system was operating to the detriment of the farmers. Labour leaders ai J followers took a distinctly class view. He would do his best in Parliament to give the farmers a better system of rural finance, and to improve their conditions in other ways.
