HIS MAJESTY’S
MISS NELLIE BRAMLEY Quite a’ large crowd assembled at the railway station this morning to greet Miss Nellie Bramley and her company after an absence of three years from Auckland, during which time Miss Bramley has played in all the capital cities of Australia and Tasmania, with remarkable success. The welcome accorded the star on arrival was a fitting tribute to her wonderful charm and undoubted popularity. The season commences to-night at H.M. Theatre, and the play selected for the first six nights is “Paddy, the Next Best Thing,” that delightful Irish play of romance and laughter, adapted from the novel of Miss Gertrude Page. There are some wonderful comedy scenes in the production, giving great scope for Miss Bromley’s undoubted acting talent. Great care has been taken to have the scenic effects in keeping with the high calibre of the show, and the frocking is described as lavish. The new art-' ists to be introduced to Auckland theatregoers to-night include Mr. Brett Randall, an English comedian specially imported to support the star, and who has had one long list of successes in London and the provinces; Miss Eve Downey, another Engish importation, who is equally at home in straight or character roles-; Miss Mabel Gower, just returned from Paris with some gorgeous frocks, and who played in the London production of “Lightnin’ ” with Laurence Grossmith.
No doubt many people will accord the glad hand to Mr. George Hewlitt, leading man, Mr. Robt. Purdie, who was through New Zealand with Graham Moffatt in “A Scrape o’ the Pen,” and who is the producer of the company. Mr. John Galway appears in character bits, and Mr. Bernard Beeby and Mr. William Raymond complete the cast. £
The box plan is filling rapidly and intending patrons are earnestly advised to book immediately at the theatre confectionery.
