HOCKEY IN FULL SWING

SOMERVILLE’S LOSS—CLIVE WATTS ON SICK LIST TO-MORROW

Again there has been a shuffling of the cards, and arrangements for tomorrow promise keen and interesting play when the various combinations meet in the senior men’s hockey contests. Which will be the hardestfought match is difficult to forecast.

Somerville will miss Clive Watts, who is on the sick list, and the combination of their forward line will no doubt be weakened by the addition of a stranger from the ranks of the Colts. Roberts takes his place as right fullback, and should add further strength to their already formidable defence. No other alteration to last week’s combination is contemplated, and the team can be expected to put on a very creditable exhibition.

Back from Australia, A. B. Burton takes his place as inside right for Wesley, and Lucas will again be seen in the goal. This team is particularly strong in defence and, with the adjustments mentioned, though on paper it would seem as if its chances of conquering its more experienced opponents is remote, the issue is difficult to forecast. Clean, open hockey can certainly be relied upon, and play will undoubtedly be willing. MOUNT EDEN v. VARSITY

Varsity’s defence has been weakened by the accident to Dr. Leonard and the defeat of the blues by Areta last week goes to prove that something was wrong with Varsity. Mount Eden has been fighting consistently up to the present and in registering its sound win against Wesley, proves the side to be worthy of respect.
