CARELESS BUILDER

FINE OF £lO MAGISTRATE’S REPRIMAND “We might have had an inquest over that; someone might have been killed,” said Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., severely, in the Police Court to-day, when he fined W. Bone, a builder, £IQ for failing to comply with the directions of the Inspector of Factories. The inspector told the court that he had warned Bone to cover holes in the floor on several occasions. This had been done partially, but the last time he visited the building a wooden roller about three feet long and six inches thick fell through, and might have caused serious injury to anyone underneath.

The builder said in his defence that there was no one underneath where the roller fell, but that did not alter the penalty.
