“COMMUNITY” BUSES EXTENSION TO FLEET r A UCKLAND’S novel system of “community" buses was further extended yesterday by placing two green buses on the Parnell route. It was explained to-day by the president of the Suburban Transit and Social Club, Mr. Harold Schmidt, that at least six additional buses will eventually be procured. “We are out to serve the public,” he says, “and must accordingly keep pace with their requirements.” The new buses have been obtained from Hamilton. Together with the new additions to the fleet it is suggested that they have been “frozen out” in the Waikato town. They will be turned to more profitable account In Auckland.
The movement, which was only started six months ago, has grown to such an extent that four buses are now running on the Dominion Road route, two to Onehunga, two jo Ellerslie and Panmure, and now ap e carrying passengers to Parnell. In all, the chf> is controlling 10 uses, and the financial result is said °v kighly satisfactory. fee is paid, apart from the club membership of half-a-crown.
