“More Like London”
NEED FOR “DOSS-HOUSE” “DISGRACE TO AUCKLAND” ** \ UCKLAND is getting more -' r *-|ike London every day in other ways besides the amount of traffic,” said Mr. T. Bloodworth at yesterday’s meeting of the Harbour Board. “It is somewhat of a disgrace that there should be necessity for a doss-house.” An appeal for funds had been made to the Board by the City Missioner, the Rev. Jasper Calder, for the shelter established in Federal Street, and the chairman, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, had moved that the request should be referred to the board in committee. Mr. Bloodworth objected to the fortnight’s waste of time. The request was urgent and there should be no delay. Mr. G. R. Hutchinson: There is the principle of whether this is a reasonable charge on the board. Mr. E. W. Inder urged that as the hoard had granted £25 to the Salvation Army it should vote at least as much to the City Mission.
At the suggestion of the chairman the request was referred to the committee with power to act.
