NELLIE BRAMLEY
THE COMING SEASON A feast of comedy is promised by the Nellie Bramley Company, which will open a two weeks’ season at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday next. Since its last visit to Auckland, nearly three years ago, the company has played before large audiences in the capital cities of Australia. Although the company was a strong one on the occasion of the previous visit to the Dominion, it has been further strengthened by a number of English artists, including Mr. Brett Randall, who has gained a great reputation as Billy in “Fair and Warmer”; Miss Mabel Gower, who played in the London production of “Lightnin’,” and Miss Eve Downey, another actress of repute. Of the original members of the company, those who will be seen during the forthcoming season are Mr. George Hewlitt, Miss Millie Carlon, Miss Marie d’Alton, Mr. John Galway, and Mr. Robert Purdie, who is also the producer. The opening piece is the phenomenally successful comedy, “Paddy the Next Best Thing,” in which Miss Bramley will be seen in the name part. It is a delightful role, in which the “tomboyish” ways of the heroine, and her desire to do good, although hopelessly muddled, are said to be splendidly portrayed by Miss Bramley. After five nights the play will be succeeded by “Baby Mine.” The following plays will also be staged: “A Little Bit of Fluff,” “Fair and Warmer,” and “Peg o’ My Heart.” Particulars of booking arrangements are advertised.
