HIS MAJESTY’S
“MEET THE WIFE” “Meet The Wife” is one of the most enjoyable farces that Auckland has seen for some time. An excellent cast, selected by the Carroll management, is headed by Miss Marian Lord, who has a role entrusted to her to which she does full justice. The comedy will be presented at His Majesty’s Theatre again this evening. “Meet The Wife” is an amusing satire upon the celebrity-hunting American hostess, and Miss Lord’s impersonation of the businesslike Mrs. Lennox is amusing in the extreme.. Her efforts to secure the distinguished Philip Lord as a guest and her subsequent discovery that the novelist is none other than her first husband, provides the plot for “Meet The Wife.” Mr. J. B. Rowe gives another restful and finished performance. He exploits his situations with skill and understanding. Mr. Macaulay extracts all that is possible from his part. He acts with restraint. Miss Audiffred is still the young woman who is determined to marry the man of her choice. Mr. Robert Adams is all flowers and affectation as the part demands. The effeminate young man in comedy has been made much of by the moderns, but in this instance he is given flat feet with which to make the character even more amusing. It is not often the American playwright evolves such a reporter-like reporter as that played by Mr. Lick Ehlers. Miss Marian Sterly is a maid who might have graced any artistic home.
