“A possibility of the future is the acquiring by the Christchurch City Council of a large block of land, for the purpose of the erection of workers’ dwellings by mass production, thus ensuring lower first cost,” writes W.H.W. We could not cavil at this procedure, provided that the types of houses to be erected are varied, not only in design, but in size and cost. The fallacy of building houses in large numbers to cater for one class of tenant is very evident, and has been condemned by many noted authorities.
