MANCHESTER’S BABIES

A SHOCKING DEATHRATE For the week ended March 26 the total number of births in Manchester was 274 and of deaths 230. The infantile mortality rate was 131 per 10,000, as against an average figure of 86 for the year 1926. In the course of the week 321 fresh cases of infectious diseases were reported. The figure for the corresponding week of last year was 812, and it included 466 cases of measles.
