OIL IS INSURANCE.

SOME VALUABLE ADVICE. GREATER CAR SERVICE. Friction is one of nature’s greatest and most useful forces. Without this element, ours would be a queer world, for once a body was started in motion* it would continue forever. If Nature suddenly eliminated friction, everybody and everything would be skidding madly over the face of the earth, swirling, colliding, causing endless damage, confusion and chaos. hike all Nature’s gifts to mankind, friction can be a blessing or £. curse. In the construction and operation of an automotive vehicle, friction plays a great part. We develop it to its greatest _ efficiency 7 in the brakes and we eliminate it as much as possible from all reciprocating parts. Engineers have reduced friction to a minimum in the motor vehicle as we know it to-day. But all the engineering, study, research and science will amount to nil without the cooperation of the operator. OIL ANTIDOTE. Just as Nature gives us antidotes for poisons, so she gives us an antidote for friction—oil. If we all appreciated the value of oil and used it most of our repair shops would he unnecessary. The money expended for oil should not be looked upon as an ordinary expense, On the contrary. It is insurance on the life and serviceability 7 of the motor vehicle. The most successful operators are the most prodigal in the use of oil. Unlike the unwise saver of a few pennies, the experienced man buy r s the best quality lubricant. Many 7 institutions operating fleets of trucks and cars make a practice of replenishing the motor oil, thoroughly inspecting and greasing the chassis parts every 7 night. Oil and grease are the very life-blood of the automobile unit. As a working man requires plenty of good food, so a working car or truck requires an ample supply of good lubricant. CHANGE FREQUENTLY. We should make it an inviolable law to change the motor oil every 7 500 to 1000 miles. In cases where the mileage is low but stops are many 7, we ought to drain the crankcase every two weeks, regardless of how short the distance travelled, for numerous stops and starts result in an increase of the dilution of the crankcase oil. The small expenditure required for this practice is in reality an investment, one which will pay large dividends in longer life, greater service and diminished repair bills. ? If your car skids sideways on a wet pavement or locks one wheel going straight ahead, it is a sign your brakes are not equalised.

EASY STARTING

With wetter and colder weather in season, now’s the time to prepare to prevent starting 1 troubles.

Look to your plugs, and see that they are clean. In cases where the plugs are countersunk in the cylinder heads, it is essential to make sure that the counter-sinkings are absolutely 7 free from moisture. Make sure, too, that the top of the ignition coil in the case of a battery ignition car, and the magneto in magneto jobs, is protected against the weather. Dry any moisture on the leads from the magneto and distributor. It is a good plan at the commencement of a run to turn the engine over by hand. This ease the oil, and make for easy starting.
