MINING NEWS MOANATAIARI.—During the week the following work has been carried out: Good progress has been made in ping the drive for the leading stop®seawards. The reef is underlying about in 1 and we are only taking the stope high enough for timbers, as the country in the hanging wall is fairly heavy. Forty pounds of good picked stone was secured for the week as reported by wire, and the reef looks very promising:. The main portion of the reef appears to be running into the footwall and we did not follow this when driving the level as we kept to the hanging wall. MAORILAND. —The mine manager reports that for the week ending May 21 the crosscut east has been advanced Bft in a firm, good class of country, interlaced with small black mineral seams. Some work has also been done on the No. 3 level with a view to holing through to the back of an old stope where payable ore was previously obtained. GOLDEN AGE.—Under date May 17 the manager reports:—A start was made to drive on a reef which I mentioned in my last report. A distance of Bft has been driven for the week. This ap;peara to be a large body of stone. We are driving in the footwall. It is of a rubby nature and is similar to the No. 1 reef in the Lucky Shot. TARANAKI OILFIELDS PROGRESS REPORT Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH. To-day. Taranaki Oilfields report:— Waiapu No. 2 well: Drilled to 1,299 feel, » grey shale, 10-inch casing to l-* 1 feet.
