At the links of the Royal Liverpool Club at Hoylake, in the annual match between teams representing England and Scotland, preliminary to the amateur championship England won the singles by 5£ matches to 4J. Scotland won the foursomes by 3 matches to 2. The English victories were as follow: R. H. Wethered defeated R. Harris, S up and 7; the New Zealander, Dr. H. D. Gillies, defeated W. W. Mackenzie, 6 up and 5; E. F. Storey defeated W. A. Murray, 5 up and 4; J. B. Beddard defeated Gibb, 4 up and 3; R. H. Hardman defeated Tulloch, 2 up.
The Scottish victories were: T. A. Torrance defeated W. L. Hartley, 4 up and 3; A. Jamieson defeated Perkins. 2 up and 1; Lord Charles Hope defeated Rex Hartley, 3 up and 2; J. G. Simpson defeated T. F. Ellison. 1 up: C. J. Tolley, the English captain, halved his match with the Scottish captain, W. J. \ Guild. —A. and N.Z.
