MIDDLEMORE FINANCE
LEVY PROPOSAL DEFEATED A proposal to make a levy of Is a day or part of a day on members playing at Middlemore links was defeated at a largely attended meeting of the club on Saturday evening. The committee brought the proposal forward, and Mr. S. J. Hanna, club captain, and Mr. M. Louisson, respectively, proposed and seconded it. Mr. Hanna said the finances of the club were in a healthy condition, but everything the club had coming in was ear-marked for the next three years. The levy would give a capital account revenue. Accommodation was becoming taxed, and £2,000 for alterations to the club house and £I,OOO for furnishings was required. Mr. W. B. Colbeck was against the proposal until the committee advised the members exactly what policy they desired to embark on. Mr. J. B. Lusk, president, considered that this was not the only way to raise funds, and if adopted it would be a hardship on younger members. He did not think any member should be stopped after he had paid his subscription.
