STREET BETTING
£l2O PENALTY INFLICTED CHINAMAN’S LUCK Press Association. GISBORNE, To-day. Two charges of frequenting a street for the purpose of betting were preferred against Charles Croon, 13 others being withdrawn b; ,he police. Defendant pleaded guilty. The magistrate inflicted a fine of £IOO on the first charge and £2O on the second.
Godfred Wagner, whose counsel said he was putting money on for a friend, was fined £2 for betting with a bookmaker.
George Yee, a Chinese, was similarly fined for the £u,.ie offence. “But I haven’t collected yet,” remarked the defendant, amidst laughter.
A widow woman who bet 5s was fined 10s.
