The Fighting “Ironsides”
MODELS OF FAMOUS SHIP COMPETITION FOR BOYS PRIZE MONEY TOTALS £ls ENTRANTS in the “Old Ironsides” Model Boat BuildingContest are reminded that all models must be in the hands of the “Old Ironsides” Contest Editor of THE SUN by June 30, which is the closing date of the competition. This contest, which we are running by special arrangement with Paramount Pictures, has made every normal boy feel that he wants to build a boat. Although there is no limit, to the actual size or build of the boats, they should he not less than 25in. long.
The story of “Old Ironsides” is one of battle action and adventure woven about the sailing frigate “Old Ironsides” which set out about the beginning of the ISth Century to rid the Mediterranean of the pirates that infested it. It was manned by a crew of sturdy youths of British stock and their epoch adventures are full of thrills. The story has just been filmed by Paramount, with Wallace Beery, hero of “We’re In The Navy Now,” heading a cast of thousands of actors and supers. The climax of the story takes place in the action of the “Bay of Tripoli,” when “Old Ironsides” fights her way into the Bay and defeats Tripoli’s forts and navy in an action that
Lord Nelson was pleased tc describe as the “greatest feat in naval history.” The winning models of the “Old Ironsides” contest will be the property of Paramount pictures for display purposes during the screening of “Old Ironsides” at the leading theatres, and will afterwards be returned to the makers. The competiton is open to boys up to 16 years of age. Model builders are invited to apply to “Old Ironsides” Contest Editor, THE SUN, for further information about the ship.
