MOTOR-CAR BURNED
ONLY TYRES SAVED EXCITEMENT AT TAKANINI The destruction by fire of a threeseater Essex motor-car on the Great South Road at Takanini caused excitement among passing motorists and residents in the vicinity about nine o’clock last evening. Hearing a small explosion, Mr. W. Mack and Mr. J. A. Faulkner, who live nearby, ran out on to the road and saw the motor-car burning fiercely. There was no sign of the driver. They attempted to push the vehicle off the concrete but were unable to do so, as the brakes were applied. Mr. Faulkner released the brakes and with the aid of some of the onlookers succeeded in pushing the car on to the footpath and, turning it upside down, they stripped the tyres from all the wheels By that time the driver, who said that he had been for assistance, had returned. He declined to give his name. The car was a complete wreck.
