The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, left for the South by the Limited last evening. Among the guests staying at the Hotel Cargen is Captain A. E. Boccard. Lieutenant Boyle, of H.M.S. Piomede, arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited from Wellingt n. Mr. Frank Thompson, private secretary to the Prime Minister, returned to Wellington by the Limited last evening. Mr. W. Bioinfield and Mr. G. H. Lethaby left by train for Wellington last night to attend the executive of the grand lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids. The Rev. E. H. Strong, chaplain to the New Plymouth High School, who bad been appointed dean of Hamilton, bas withdrawn his acceptance of the position. He has been appointed vicar of St. Mary’s, New Plymouth, and will be inducted early in July.

Mr. L. O. Atkinson, secretary of the \ew Zealand Football Association, arrived by the Limited express from ■Wellington this morning. He is to meet the Canadian football team, which is arriving by the Niagara on Mondafy.

Mr. C. W. Garrard, senior inspector of" schools, Auckland education district, has been appointed by the Minister of Education to the Council of Education .taking office on .Tune 1. Mr Garrard will not relinquish his present position, as the Council of Education is only an advisory body, and meets about twice a year.
