MAUNGA’S FINE EFFORT When Maunga won the Wanganui Steeplechase on Thursday he was responsible for accomplishing a very fne performance. The Mountain Knight gelding carried 9.10, and although his winning margin was srna'i he did it well, and jumped in a manner suggesting that he will manage the big fences and the hill at Ellerslie. Maunga has 9.6 in the Great Northern Steeplechase, and 9.9 in the Great Northern Hurdles. He is sure to be penalised now for the former event. The success of Maunga at Wanganui places an entirely different complexion on the Great Northerns, for he ha* shown that he is at hi* fee*** and it is in his favour that the further they have to go the better he will like it. So Maunga is one to keep in view for the big cven *f Ellerslie early next month.
