BETTY’S DAYDREAM

“Oh dear,” sighed Betty, “What ever shall I do?” She glanced round the

room with its heavy oak chairs and table, the oak piano with its glossy gold cover, the heavy rugs and mats and the big black oil-painted vase in which stood tall, coloured cosmos and daisies. She sat down and sighed again. “Oh I wish I could go out as well as mother and father,” she thought. “Would you like to go to Fairyland?” said a bell-like voice. “Oh please take me.” exclaimed Betty, joyfully, without knowing who had spoken. “Where can I stand?” asked Fairy Silverwings. Betty looked round and saw a beautifLil fairy dressed in silver, with large glistening silver-gauze wings. “Stand on my hands,” said the excited Betty,, and two minutes later the fairy was .standing thfere telling her a story of Fairyland. Presently they rose in the air and went floating hand-in-hand to that wonderful place where real fairies live. . . . “Come along, dear, it’s time for tea,” said a voice, and she awakened with a start to see her mother standing by her side. Betty had many happy days after that, for she amused her viistors and friends with the story of her dream of fairies and Fairyland, when she fell asleep, 1 with her hands and head resting on • the table. 1 —Phyllis Yates (aged 14). There are people who are like urn- i brellas, - very useful, but always liable j ' to be forgotten.
