PAPATOETOE CRICKET CLUB
ANNUAL BALL The Town Hall, Papatoetoe, presented a gay spectacle last evening, when the Papatoetoe Cricket Club held its annual ball. Over 120 couples attended, and with a good floor and excellent music a most successful function resulted. The stage had been daintily decorated by the lady supporters of the club, with a wealth of greenery, palms and flowers. Birtley’s Orchestra supplied the music in their usual efficient manner. A very dainty supper was served by the members and friends of the club, and one of the most successful functions of its kind terminated in the region of 2 a.m. Messrs. E. H. Burnside and A. Swaffleld efficiently carried out the duties of M.C.’s. Miss Mona Waters and Mrs. Stan. Brokes played a number of pleasing extras. Among those present were the following:—Miss H. Dreadon, gold net and lace; Miss R. Wallace, opal blue taffetas; Miss M. Wilson, leaf green and cherry georgette; Miss D. Foster, apricot georgette; Miss Stonex, blue and silver sequins; Miss G. Donnell, apricot georgette; Mrs. Booth, black georgette gown; Mrs. Brokes, eau-de-nil georgette relieved with gold; Miss M. Cutforth, black lace frock; Miss M. Wyllie, moonlight blue gown; Miss D. Waters, apricot crepe de chine; Miss N. Mellsop, maize lace relieved with cherry; Miss M. Upton, cyclamen georgette; Miss Orr, saxe frilled taffetas; Miss M. Foster, rose taffetas; Mrs. R. G. Ross, black and silver gown; Miss J. George, cyclamen taffetas; Miss Arthur, cherry embossed georgette; Miss W. Wyllie, black and Oriental lace; Miss Byrnes, maize georgette; Miss P. Piggin, cameo pink and silver; Miss Grinter, cyclamen accordeon pleated georgette; Miss K. Waters, cameo pink georgette; Miss Hosking, hyacinth blue taffetas: Mrs. Foster, black georgette relieved with cyclamen; Mrs. Kelsey, mauve taffetas; Mrs. Alex. Swaffield, black lace; Mrs. C. Allen, powder blue georgette; Mrs. H. Baildon, saxe crepe de chine; Miss Allen, wine satin with gold lace; Miss G. Bell, bois-de-rose taffetas and Spanish shawl; Mrs. Hyghland, black beaded georgette; Miss R. Booth, rose and silver taffetas; Miss Booth, salmon and gold taffetas; Miss O' Loughlin, maize crepe de chine; Miss N. McLeod (Mount Eden), vieux rose crepe de chine; Miss B. Wyllie, pastel silk net and Spanish shawl; Miss O’ Loughlin, blue crepe de chine.
To clean aluminium saucepans which have become discoloured inside, boil some apple-peeling in them for ten minutes; then wash with clean water.
