HAWKE’S BAY FARMERS
WAIT ON MINISTER ASSISTANCE REQUESTED Press Association. DANNEVIRKE, To-day. The Minister of Agriculture was waited upon by the members of the Southern Hawke’s Bay branch of the Farmers’ Union, and Dannevirke A. and P. Society, who asked for assistance toward the establishment of a demonstration farm in Southern Hawke’s Bay. The Minister gave no definite answer, but said he considered the present method of instruction by officers of field division less expensive and more beneficial than demonstration farms. In regard to herd-testing he held out some hope of financial assistance being awarded the Dominion Herd-Testing Federation. He said the Government had no power to interfere with regard to the increase in the bank rates. He was in favour of a portion of the proceeds of the Howard bequest beingdevoted by the trustees to the agricultural college at Palmerston North for research into matters regarding meat and wool.
The Minister left by train later for Wellington.
