third attempt within a mc plane BY DARING AMERICAN—S „ ARE STILL By Cable.-—Press Association.—Copyright Recd - 8 a.m. NEW YORK, Friday. Captain Lindbergh left Roosefelt field at 7.52 a.m. on Friday. He took off in damp, foggy weather, jvnich cleared shortly after the start, e having ascertained that the weather conditions at sea were excellent. The airman had only a sandwich to eat and two hours’ sleep since eight o’clock last night. He took only concentrated food n tablets for the trip. A tremendous roar arose from the crowd of thousands when the plane started down the runway. Lindbergh, who is always recklessly aring. took off from the west end of e runway, from where, had the plane ai led to rise, he would have crashed ‘Dto a row of buildings. c As it was he had slight difficulty in U S. making several hops first. i

ONTH SOLO FLIGHT IN MONOSAINT ROMAIN AND NUNGESSER L MISSING Five other planes escorted him from the Held, including Commander Byrd in the Fokker plane with which he himself hopes to make the trip when tests are completed. Lindergh was “flying blind,” as the aviators say, for the arrangement of the plane prevents him from seeing ahead, except with periscopes, which were almost useless, due to the poor visibility near the ground. He carried no wireless other than signalling devices, and only sufficient food to last three days. It is expected that he will take between 30 and 35 hours to reach Paris. Lindbergh, aged 25, daring and smiling, has captured the imagination of the public more than any other American airman. There is no further news of Captain Nungesser and Captain Romain. the missing French airmen.—A. and N.Z.
