AEOLIAN ORCHESTRA

OPENING CONCERT For the opening concert of their sixth season the Aeolian Orchestra offer a very popular programme that should not fail to attract a large attendance of the music-loving public It was originally intended to hold this concert on Tuesday last, but owing to the expected arrival of Efrem Zimbalist, the violinist, the orchestra very obligingly postponed their fixture until Tuesday next in order to fit in with the arrangements of the visiting artist. Following the custom of making each programme, as far as possible, contain a special feature, for the concert an all-British programme has been arranged. Every item presented on Tuesday will be from the British school of composers, Stephen Adams, German, Elgar, Sullivan, Percy Grainger, W. H. Squire and R. H. Horne being represented. “Maritana” and “The Mikado” will be the operatic selections, while a work by R. H. Horne, the Christchurch composer, “Jours Passes,” will also prove of interest. Assisting artists will be Miss Phyllis Gribbin, who will sing “The Lost Chord” (Sullivan) and “Like to the Damask Rose” (Elgar), and Mr. 11. Richards, who will contribute “Like Stars Above” (Squire) and “Ailsa Mine” (Adams).

The orchestra will appear under the baton of Mr. W. Edgar Webb, with Mr. F. M. Price as leader, and Miss Maida Hooker, A.R.C.M., as hon. accompanist.
