Finding “Miss New Zealand 1927”

OPPORTUNITY IS PASSING WE WANT YOUR PHOTOGRAPH ONLY a month. Just think of it! A month in which to decide the great issue. “Miss New Zealand 1927’’ provides the greatest opportunity ever offered any New Zealand girl. The opportunity surely in too good to miss. Remember, the competition will be closed in a month, and the opportunity of penetrating the mysteries of Hollywood will be lost for all time. Auckland girls, let us have your photographs. It will cost you nothing, and give you the chance of your lifetime.

This is what the contest offers to the winner:—1. —To send her with a responsible chaperon to Hollywood, where, as New Zealand’s chosen representative, a reception is awaiting her by the mayor of Culver City, the directors and the stars of the film colony. 2. —The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation will take screen tests, and according to the ability displayed, a part will be allotted her in a feature film and pictures will also be taken of her reception and progress. Whatever ability she displays, she will receive a position and be helped and instructed in the technique of sireen acting. 3. —During the period occupied on location, "MISS NEW ZEALAND 1927” will receive a weekly salary of £25. 4. A complete and beautiful ward--54 robe made by one of the best Dominion firms will be given “MISS NEW ZEALAND 1927,” also £IOO pocket money, and many other valuable and useful presents.

The objective is not only to discover and place upon the screen a beautiful and capable New Zealand actress, but also to find a representative type of our living womanhood —a girl ambassador of New Zealand. QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE Entry forms are available at THE SUN Office on application. The duration of the "Miss New Zealand 1927” competition is limited to a few weeks. There is every indication that the competition will be one of the most eagerly contested. THE SUN has already received numbers of photographs. We want them in as quickly as possible. Everyone should enter into the spirit of this great adventure. Photographs of approved candidates will be taken free of charge by the Bell Studio, Karangahape Road. Additional photos of contestants appear in this issue. Others will appear during the competition, and each will have a distinguishing number. Application forms are obtainable at THE SUN Office, and at the Regent. Majestic and Strand Theatres. FOURTH SEMI-FINALIST MISS D. McPHAIL CHOSEN BY SUN READERS The voting for the fourth semifinalist out of the eight to be selected by SUN readers, resulted in a win for Miss D. McPhail. The following were the leading six at 9 o’clock last night: *No. 19—Miss D. McPhail. No. 39. —Miss D. Cheeseman. No. 13.—Miss Billie Andreasson. No. 33.—Miss Lynda Murphy. No. 48.—Miss Pat Collins. No. 17. —Miss Queenie Graham. Voting for the coming week will be on all the compettiors left in, numbering from one to 57, excluding, of course, those already chosen as semi-finalists.

5.—-If and when “MISS NEW ZEALAND’S” education and prospects warrant, it is hoped she may proceed home to Britain and take her place on the British screen.

G.—An opportunity is offered for “MISS NEW ZEALAND 1927” to represent her country at the All Nations Assembly of Beautiful Women at Atlantic City. If time permits, she may be sent there.
