TWO FINE COWS
JUSTIFY PURCHASE THE POPULAR JERSEY (From Our Own Correspondent.') GISBORNE, To-day. The acquisition some years ago by the Cook Hospital Board of a dairy farm was the subject of much criticism, but even during the most difficult period the venture proved successful. The subsequent purchase of two pedigree Jersey heifers revived former comment, but the expenditure of £250 in this connection gives everv indication of justifying itself. The heifers are at present undergoing semiofficial tests. Alfalfa Perfection commenced her test in October last, when 20 months old. By March she held given 2581 b. of butter-fat, .hus exceeding in seven months the amount required for twelve months’ testing to qualify for a certificate. In April alone the heifer yielded 39.51 b. of but-ter-fat, with a remarkablv good test of 7.58. The second heifer in five and a-half months gave over 1901 b. of buter-fat.
