BANK OF ENGLAND RETURNS By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, Thursday. The Bank of England returns for the week ended May 19, as compared with those for the week ended May 12, are as follow:

SHORT LOANS AND BILLS Short loans, 3i per cent, compared with 3g per cent last week; three months’ hills, 3 11-16 per cent, same as last week. CONSOLS AND COLONIAL STOCKS The following table gives quotations for consols and colonial inscribed stotfks, compared with those of May 12:

THE FOREIGN EXCHANGES The following rates on foreign exchanges are current to-day, as compared with the cabled quotations on May 16 and par:

METAL PRICES (Quotations on May 16 in parentheses.) Copper.—Spot, £64 9s 4Jd (£54 16s lOfcl) ; three months, £55 Os 7fd (£55 ,8s lid). Lead.—Spot, £24 17s Gd (£25 2s 6d); three months, £25 6s 3d (£25 12s 6d). Spelter.—Spot, £29 7s 6d ( £29 2s 6d); three months, £29 2s 6d (£29 3s 9d). Tin.—Spot, £291 11s 3d (£290 15s); three months, £283 11s 3d (£2S3 ss). Silver. —Standard, 26s (25 13-16 d) per ounce; fine, 28 1-16 (27 7-8 d). WHEAT AND FLOUR Wheat cargoes are firm, and have advanced 3d. There is a fair demand for the United Kingdom, and Continental inquiry is quiet. Sales were made at 55s 3d to 55s 6d. Parcels are fairly active at 3d advance. Sales, 55s 3d to 55s 9d. Liverpool futures: May, 10s lid per cental; July, 10s 101'd; October, 10s 7d. Spot trade is quiet and occasionally easier. Flour. —Firm. Peas and Beans.—Quiet. BRADFORD TOPS Business in the Bradford tops market is very slow, but is showing a slightly better tone: 64’s are quoted at 3s lid a lb: 60’s, 3s 6d; 56’s, 2s lOd; 50’s, 2s 2d; 46’s, Is SJd; 40’s, Is 7Jd. MELBOURNE PRODUCE MARKET. MELBOURNE, Friday. The following are to-day’s quotations on the Melbourne produce market:—• Wheat, 5s 6d to 5s 7d. Flour, £l2 10s to £l3.
