WAIUKU R.S.A.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE WAIUKU, Friday. A committee meeting of the Waiuku branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on*Tuesday night, when the following were present: Lt.-Col. Aldred, president, Messrs. J. G. Milne. F. Knight, G. O’Hara, J. McQuire, D. Lawton and the secretary, Mr. G. V. Williams. The date of the annual re-union was fixed for June 22.

The framed picture of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force badges presented to the school selling the most poppies, pro rata, on the average attendance, was won by the Te Tora School by a very small margin from Mauku. It was resolved to present Mauku with a picture as a consolation prize. The secretary presented a statement of the money received from the sale of poppies and the collections taken at the services held at Waiuku and Mauku on Anzac Day, and after deducting costs, a credit was left to the Poppy Fund of £62 12s 6d. It was decided that the funds should only be used for the relief of actual distress among soldiers, or to find work, if necessary, by means of subsidising Deal bodies for employing returned men actually out of work.
