THE KING’S TROPHY
WON BY COROPORAL ROUSE (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-day. At a muster parade of B Company, N.A. Regiment, on Thursday evening, Major Lockie, officer commanding the First North Auckland Regiment, presented Corporal R. G. Rouse with a medal of honour, won at the last competition in the Imperial Challenge Shield series and King’s Trophy competition. This trophy was awarded each cadet who obtained 97 or 98 points out of a possible 100, and as the conditions of shooting are very strict, very few have the honour of gaining the medal. Only three New Zealand boys qualified for the trophy last year, and as there were 6,618 competitors, it will be seen that it is indeed an honour for Corporal Rouse. The trophy took the form of a bronze medallion, upon the front of which is depicted an archer discharging an arrow, and the wording, “For Special Service.” On the reverse appears in large type, “King’s Trophy Competition,” and on a scroll the following in smaller lettering, “Presented by the King to encourage youth in the hope that friendly competition and efficient training may help into force new links in the British Empire.” The name and rank of the winner are inscribed on the edge.
