NO ILL-FEELING

TOURISTS IN PARIS ENGLISH COST OF LIVING “There was no feeling against the English in Paris. The French were perfectly sweet to us.” This was Mrs. George Brown’s answer to a question as to whether there was any unpleasantness to tourists in Paris. Mr. and Mrs. Brown and their son returned to Auckland this morning on the Port Hardy, after two years in England. Their reason for returning to New Zealand was because the cost of living in England is so high. Their estimate of what it costs to live in London is £3,000 a year—and that is to live just comfortably. Travelling is cheaper in New Zealand, they said. Food prices are also cheaper. A small joint of meat which in Auckland would cost 3s could not be purchased for anything under 8s in London. Other prices, when compared, are in favour of New Zealand.
