NORTHERN HIGHWAY

SELECTION OF THE ROUTE EAST V. WEST CONTROVERSY When the Main Highways Board reached the decision that the East Coast route, and not the West Coast route, should be the main highway in the North Auckland peninsula, its view did not coincide with that of the Prime Minister, the Hon. J. G. Coates, who told a Helensville deputation last night that he had thought the West Coast route would have been chosen. However, he was not going to override the board, which had considered the situation from every angle. All he could promise was that he would go into the question with the Public Works Department, with a view to having the West Coast Road made an all-weather road.
