THE STRAND
THE LATEST COMEDY “Thrills that would do credit to a most gripping- melodrama, a plausible Plot tilled with laughs and delicately touched with pathos, unrivalled scenic effects and excellent photography; these are the reasons for the tremendous popularity of ‘Go West/ Buster Keaton’s latest comedy.” In these terms a critic describes the film which "ill he commencing at the Strand Theatre to-day. “It was produced by Buster Keaton for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Obviously intended to be a farcical comedy of the wide open spaces, it is the frozen-faced funmaker’s first western picture, and the mos; entertaining of his many hilarious successes. One of its .most pleasing features is its novel twist, and the thread of pathos and drama that runs throughout marks a new note in feature comedies. Keaton is at his best as a young adventurer who essays life m the West, and he seemingly risks his neck time and again in some of his daring comedy work.” On the same Programme will be “The Danger Signal,” an adaptation of William Z. Doty’s Popular magazine story of the same title. The tale revolves round the daring phases of railroad life. There is a series of gripping situations which lt*aci up to a wreck, said to be one of the most sensational catastrophes ever taken for the screen. Throughout the action there moves the story of a mothers’s sacrificing heart. Left a widow shortly after her child is born, *he gives it up to her stubborn, wealthy father-in-law and leaves the city to resude in her isolated native town. Many surprising situations follow. Jane Novak plays the part of the young widow. Robert Edeson, famous as a stage star as well as one of thn best character actors playing before the camera, is the grandfather. The Strand Symphony Orchestra will P 1 V an Entr’acte, and Mr. Arthur Riph‘> and Miss Alma McGruer, will sing il bracket of duets, which will prove a delightful musical interlude.
