Serious Fire
THREE SHOPS GUTTED BLAZE AT WINTON Press Association INVERCARGILL, Thursday. A serious fire occurred at Winton at 5 o’clock this morning, when three shops in the business centre were destroyed and a fourth damaged. The fire started in Mrs. Woollams’s drapery establishment and spread rapidly, destroying the premises of Mr. P. Tait (tailor) and Mr. Arthur Watson (fruit and auction mart), and damaging the Winton Hardware Company’s stock. The premises occupied by Mrs. Woollams were insured for £450, and Mr. Watson’s for £IOO. The insurance on the stock is unavailable. The origin of the fire is a mystery.
