Town Planning— Newmarket Alert
THE REGIONAL SYSTEM RIGHT OF APPEAL WANTED The Mayor and members of the Newmarket Borough Council met the Director of Town Planning, Mr. R. B. Hammond, yesterday. After the director had explained the Town Planning Act, and the need for a regional scheme, the party visited the Railway Department’s land at the corner of Remuera Road and Broadway. Mr. Hammond approved the council’s scheme to provide better access to Morrow Street from Remuera Road. The Mayor expressed the council’s willingness to be represented at a conference to discuss regional planning. At the council meeting last evening a letter was read from the Municipal Association inviting suggestions for amendments to the Town Planning Act. The Mayor expressed the opinion that any local body which objected to a regional scheme should have the right of appeal. This suggestion, it was decided, should be forwarded as a remit to the next conference.
