THE WATERLOW CASE

OWNER’S APPEAL FAILS RIDER’S TERM REDUCED Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. At a meeting of the Canterbury District Racing Committee, the appeal of F. R. Pierce against the 12 months’ disqualification imposed upon him by the South Canterbury Jockey Club was dismissed. D. Hall, whose licence was suspended for six months by the same club, also appealed against the decision, with the result the term of suspension was reduced to May 31. The sensation of the first day of the recent South Canterbury meeting was provided after the Rosewill Handicap, when the stewards met to consider the running of Waterlow. After going into the case very fully and hearing the evidence of owner, rider, and trainer, F. P. Claridge, the stewards decided to impose 12 months’ disqualification upon the owner, F. R. Pierce, for giving unsatisfactory evidence and to suspend D. Hall, rider, for six months for not riding his mount out.
