TOWN-PLANNING
ASSOCIATION TO MEET The first general meeting of the re-cently-constituted Auckland TownPlanning Association will be held on Friday at the University College, Princes Street. Formed principally for the practical improvement and artistic development of Auckland and its environs, the association will also interest itself in the collection and preservation of relics and records of historic interest, whenever such steps are considered necessary or advisable. Any person who contributes the sum of one guinea will be eligible for election as a member of the association, and one may become an associate member on payment of the sum of five shillings. Auckland is a young and beautiful city, as yet unspoiled by an inconsiderate commerce which, if allowed control of a rapidly-growing town such as ours, is often responsible for the unhappy conditions to be found in most of the older cities of the world. Hence the coming of a town-planning association should prove a timely safeguard of the natural charm of this favoured Auckland, as well as being the instrument whereby anything in the nature of slum areas may be obviated in the future.
